Speed Run: The Complete List of Stra.ai Subtitle Shortcuts
The full shortcut list
Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
Play and pause | Space |
Add subtitle segment | A |
Split segment | Ctrl K (Windows) or Cmd K (Mac) |
Merge with next segment | J |
Delete segment | Del or Backspace |
Zoom in and out on timeline | Ctrl and scroll wheel |
When to use each one
Space is the one you will use constantly. Hit it to play, hit it again to pause. Keep one hand on the keyboard and one on the mouse while you review and you will move through a project twice as fast.
A adds a blank segment at the current playhead position. Position the playhead at the start of a missing line, hit A, and a new segment appears ready to edit. No need to reach for the plus button.
Ctrl K or Cmd K splits the selected segment at the playhead position. Use this when one block contains two separate lines that need different timing. Position the playhead exactly where the split should happen, then hit the shortcut.
J merges the selected segment with the one immediately after it. Use this when two short segments read better as a single line. Select the first one and hit J.
Del or Backspace removes the selected segment entirely. Select the block you want to remove in the work area or on the timeline and hit either key.
Ctrl and scroll wheel zooms the timeline in and out. Scroll up to zoom in for precise frame-level timing adjustments. Scroll down to zoom out and see more of the video at once. This is the fastest way to navigate the timeline without touching the zoom controls.
A note on navigation
To move left and right along the timeline without zooming, hold Shift and scroll with your mouse wheel. This is not a shortcut list item but it is worth knowing alongside the shortcuts above.
